NewYork, kasuaritv.com _ Last Friday, March 27th, I had the honor of speaking at an Eid al-Fitr celebration hosted by the United Democratic Clubs and South Asian and Caribbean Democratic Clubs. The event brought together prominent figures and activists from the New York Democratic Party, as well as several City and State officials, including City Comptroller Levine, State Senator John Liu, and others.
Here's a summary of my speech:
Such a great pleasure to join the New York Democratic Club's Eid celebration, a vibrant testament to the power of community and faith. As I stood alongside esteemed elected officials, including City Comptroller Levine and Senator Lui, I was reminded of the values that unite us.
Ramadan, the holy month of fasting and reflection, has concluded, and we gather to celebrate Eid, a time of joy and renewal. This period of spiritual introspection is an opportunity for growth, a chance to cultivate self-awareness and devotion to a higher power.
The Ramadan experience should inspire three essential outcomes:
- Spiritual Revitalization: Our spiritual nature defines us as humans. By nurturing our spiritual selves, we counterbalance the allure of materialism and physical pride (racism).
- Humanity Rediscovery: Islam teaches us we're created from a single soul, emphasizing our shared humanity. This realization fosters solidarity and compassion, reminding us that an attack on one is an attack on all.
- Community Building: Our diversity is a strength, not a weakness. By embracing our differences, we build bridges of understanding (no walls) and solidarity, standing together as a united community.
As we celebrate Eid, let's carry these principles forward, striving to be better humans, and fostering a world where love, compassion, and unity prevail.
